Men's Basketball Topped by Elizabethtown, 76-65

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Haverford College men's basketball team was hot from beyond the arc on Wednesday night as it hit 10 three-pointers on the road against Elizabethtown College. The precision shooting from distance helped the Fords overcome a 14 point deficit and take the lead midway through the second half. However, 19 points at the free throw line from the host Blue Jays proved too much to overcome for Haverford.

Joe Scibelli hit both of his three-point attempts on his way to 26 points and 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double in six games. On a night where five different Haverford players connected from distance, Grayson Roth led the team with three triples as he scored a season-high 13 points. Kahlil Garnes and Jonathan Lang also knocked down a pair of threes, while Kyle Goldfarb connected once from behind the arc. Elizabethtown was led offensively by Josh Eden's 21 points as he snatched a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Starting out in an evenly played non-conference clash, the Fords and Blue Jays saw five lead changes in the opening nine minutes. Tied at 10-all midway through the half, the Blue Jays distanced themselves over the next 10 minutes to hold a 39-25 edge at the break.

Elizabethtown shot 75 percent from three-point land in the opening half. However, the Fords turned the tables during the second half and connected on six chances from distance. Trailing by 14 just a couple minutes into the second period, the Fords got three triples to go during a six minute span that fueled an 18-3 run. A three-pointer from Roth capped the run and gave Haverford its first lead of the half, a 47-46 edge with 11:45 to play.

Haverford maintained its offensive intensity and was holding a 52-50 lead with 9:38 to play. Nevertheless, an ensuing 14-0 run from the hosts proved too much for the visiting Fords to overcome in the final minutes.

As the calendar flips to December, the Fords will have three Centennial Conference match ups before the winter break. Up first will be a home date with Franklin & Marshall this Saturday at 3 p.m. That contest will be preceded by the women's game against Stevens at 1 p.m. The Diplomats are currently receiving votes in the latest D3Hoops Poll.
