WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Haverford College men's basketball team shot nearly 52 percent in the opening half against McDaniel and led by as many as nine points in the opening period. However, consistent shooting from the Green Terror and nine baskets from beyond the arc proved too much for the Fords to overcome in a 74-61 final in favor of McDaniel.

Kahlil Garnes was a major spark for the Fords in the opening 20 minutes as he scored 12 points during the first half on his way to a team-high 14 points. The Fords also had three players in double figures with Matt Sherman and Sam Stogdon each scoring 10 points. Nick Perugino hit six of his team's nine three-point tries in the game to lead a trio of Green Terror players in double figures with a game-high 20 points.

Haverford led for nearly the entire opening half as Stogdon scored a layup just under a minute into the game for the first points of the evening. The Green Terror would hold the lead on just two occasions before the break and both times that lead would stand for less than a minute.

Sherman gave the Fords the lead for good in the opening half as he converted an old fashioned three-point play with Haverford down a point just over eight minutes into the game. That takeaway and basket at the other end of the floor sparked a 7-0 spurt from the Fords in just over a minute of playing time.

Despite the hot shooting of the Fords throughout the half, McDaniel kept within striking distance as the Green Terror trailed by four, 31-27, with under three remaining before the half. Nevertheless, Haverford stretched that advantage to its largest lead of the night with a layup by Stogdon and three-pointer from Joe Hartman to take a 36-27 edge with 2:32 to play. However, the Green Terror brought the game to a tie with a 9-0 run that was capped by a half court shoot from Perugino as time expired on the opening half.

Haverford was still on pace for one its highest scoring games of the season when Sherman came away with a steal and ultimately found Garnes for a jumper to knot the score at 42-all less than three minutes into the second half. However, the Fords went uncharacteristically cold from the field as the Green Terror limited Haverford to just a pair of baskets from the field during a 24-5 run over the next 10-plus minutes.

The Fords outscored the Green Terror by a 14-8 margin in the last six minutes, but the damage had been done earlier in the half. A big part of McDaniel's success came in that paint where the Green Terror outscored Haverford 18-8 on the night and held a 9-0 edge in second chance points thanks to the help of 15 offensive rebounds.

Men's basketball will close its three game week with a 3 p.m. tip against Johns Hopkins this Saturday inside the Gooding '84 Arena. The game will be proceeded by the women taking on the Blue Jays at 1 p.m.
