HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's basketball team put together a strong defense effort, limiting Johns Hopkins to just 63 points during the Centennial Conference matchup on Saturday. However, the Blue Jays were equally up to the task in their eventual 63-31 victory inside the Gooding '84 Arena.

Kyle Goldfarb led the Fords with eight points. His classmate, Sam Stogdon, shined on the defensive end with a season-high 10 rebounds to go along with five points while also blocking two shots from the Blue Jays. Ryan Curran led a trio of Johns Hopkins' players in double figures with 17 points.

Haverford limited the visiting Blue Jays to just eight points in the first seven minutes of game action. A pair of baskets from Goldfarb and two more points from Stogdon saw the score sitting at 8-6 as the game grew seven minutes old. If for only a couple of minutes, Johns Hopkins found some offensive rhythm and scored on four straight possessions to take a 10 point lead with 11:09 to play in the opening half.

Playing a basically even final 10 minutes in the half, the Blue Jays grew their lead to no more than 14 points, but a steal from Grayson Roth right before the buzzer turned into a pair of fast break points as Johns Hopkins took a 28-16 lead into the locker room.

Despite limiting the Blue Jays to just 38 percent shooting in the second half, a defensive mark that was six percent better than the first 20 minutes, Johns Hopkins scored more points with a 35-15 advantage during that time for the eventual Centennial Conference victory. The Fords finished the night with six steals on the afternoon as Joe Hartman had two swipes to lead his team.

The busy stretch continues for the men's basketball team as the Fords play their final non-conference game of the season on Monday at 8 p.m. against Rutgers-Camden. During halftime of the men's game, Haverford will be honoring its Class of 2017 student-athletes with the Varsity Blanket Ceremony. The women will begin the night with a 6 p.m. tip against Immaculata.
