PHILADELPHIA – Matt Sherman has been voted to the 2016-17 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area men's basketball team. The all-area team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

Sherman was a team captain for the Fords and finished his career with 1,018 points. He scored his 1,000th career point during the final home game of his career against Swarthmore. Sherman's team then upended postseason bound Johns Hopkins to put an exclamation on the 2016-17 season.

The Fords' captain led the team in points (314), field goals made (114), field goals attempted (292), three-pointers made (36), three-pointers attempted (137), steals (26), and minutes (767) during his senior season. He scored 10 or more points in 16 different games, including five 20-plus point efforts.

Sherman finishes his career as a three-time honoree on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. He was also named an Ambler Scholar-Athlete which recognizes the top 16 GPAs among senior student-athletes at Haverford. Sherman earned an honorable mention All-Centennial Conference selection during his sophomore season.
