LYCOMING, Pa. – Kahlil Garnes became the second player this season to reach 1,000 career points for the Haverford College men's basketball team. Unfortunately, that was not enough for the Fords as they fell 88-73 against Misericordia in their first game of the Lycoming Tournament on Friday evening.

With today's results, Haverford will now play host Lycoming on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game which is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. Lycoming fell to Penn State-Abington by a 66-55 score in the opening game of the tournament. Misericordia and Penn State-Abington will meet in the championship game tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.

On his milestone night, Garnes was one of four Fords who reached double figures in the scoring column. He finished with 14 points, needing just eight to reach his banner moment entering the night. Joe Scibelli led the Fords with 16 points, while Jack Cork recorded his third career double-double. Cork's first double-double of this season came behind 15 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Hartman added 13 points as both he and Garnes knocked down a team-best three triples over the course of the game.

Playing their first game since December 13 of last year, a 22 day layoff over the holiday break, the Fords found themselves with an early hole to dig out of as the Cougars scored nine of the game's first 11 points. Nevertheless, Haverford quickly began to find its grove and made the score 21-17 with Scibelli connecting on a jumper midway through the opening half.

Fittingly enough, it was a three-pointer from Garnes – which gave him exactly 1,000 points for his career – that brought the Fords within a single possession during the final minutes of the opening half. His triple at the 3:39 mark set the score at 30-27 and allowed him to reach the 1,000 point plateau in his 86th career game. A jumper from Scibelli, who reached that same milestone just two games ago, also made the game a three point difference just a few possessions later. However, Misericordia closed the half on an 8-3 spurt and held a 40-32 lead after 20 minutes.

Haverfod continued its climb back into the game by allowing the Cougars to score just three times from the field during the opening seven-plus minutes of the second half. That lock down defensive effort allowed Haverford to get back within five points as Cork hit from the baseline to make the score 50-45 with 13:14 left in regulation.

Ultimately, the Cougars regained their shooting touch and finished the night by making over half their baskets from the field. That included an 11-of-25 night from beyond the arc in the team's 88-73 victory. The Fords once again held the rebounding advantage, 38-36, thanks to 11 offensive rebounds.

Haverford finished the night with 14 assists. Jonathan Lang's three helpers led 10 different players who dished out dimes. The Fords turned the ball over just 11 times, but the Cougars certainly made them pay for that on the other end as Misericordia finished the night with a 21-7 advantage in points off of turnovers.
