HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's basketball team was upended by Ursinus on Wednesday evening by a 96-84 score. The Fords trailed by double digits midway through the opening half, but made several valiant attempts at a comeback before ultimately coming up shy on their home court.

Senior Kahlil Garnes scored a season-high 21 points to finish with his 15th career game of at least 20 points. He led four Haverford players who finished in double figures. Joe Scibelli recorded his 29th career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jesse Turkson just missed that plateau with 12 points and eight boards. Joe Wujciak also scored 12 points. Ryan McTamney led each of Ursinus' five starters who finished in double figures with 19 points.

Haverford took the lead right out of the gates with a pair of quick layups from Scibelli to grab a 5-2 advantage. A three-pointer from McTamney tied the game at five and keyed a 12-2 run that allowed the Bears to gain their share of the lead. Haverford had that eight-point deficit trimmed to just five as Garnes knocked down a three-pointer of his own with 11:11 remaining in the first half. The deficit stood at just six points with Jack Cork knocking down a jumper in the paint, but the Bears ran off 10 of the next 12 points to take their first double-digit lead of the night, 36-20, with 5:36 remaining in the half.

The Fords answered that surge with a 10-0 run of their own that featured five more points from Garnes to make the score 38-34. Nevertheless, Ursinus closed the half by scoring the final six points to carry a 46-36 lead into the locker room.

Ursinus' lead ballooned to as many as 20 points midway through the second half but the Fords had one last run left in them. With under three minutes to play, the Fords went on a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to nine points with a minute remaining. Garnes kept things rolling with a steal that turned into a pair of fast break points and also converted on a four-point play to catch the attention of the Ursinus coaching staff. The Bears would turn it over once more with the lead at single digits, but finished the game 3-for-4 at the charity stripe during the final minute to turn away any final comeback bid.

Men's basketball will be back at home this Saturday to celebrate Senior Day against Dickinson. The men's game will follow the women's contest against the Red Devils. Prior to the men's game tipping at 3 p.m., the team will honor the three members of its Class of 2019: Kahlil Garnes, Kyle Goldfarb, and Joe Scibelli.
