Alex Hansen joined the Haverford College men’s basketball team as an assistant coach prior to the 2017-18 season. Since then, he has been instrumental in helping the Fords to improved win totals during each of his two seasons on the sidelines alongside head coach Patrick Doherty. Hansen came to Haverford after spending two years as an assistant coach at Emerson College in Boston, Mass. Hansen’s experience as a coach dates back prior to his college playing days as the 2014 Willamette University graduate started working summer basketball camps as a coordinator & coach all across the country with coaches that included Mark Few (Gonzaga) and Larry Krystkowiak (Utah) during the summer of 2010.

Expanding on his responsibilities at Haverford, Hansen was instrumental in many areas at Emerson, including film breakdown, game day scouting, and charting offensive and defensive possessions. His worked helped the team win its first-ever NEWMAC playoff game in 2016 before falling in the semifinals to the eventual conference champion. Hansen was also the lead recruiter for players in the Texas, Southern California, and New England regions. Prior to Emerson, he spent one year as an assistant coach at Steele Canyon High School (Calif.) and one season as a 15U AAU Head Coach of the San Diego Sharks.

Appearing in 87 games during his collegiate playing career at Willamette in Salem, Oregon, Hansen started every game during his senior campaign and developed into a threat from beyond the arc as he led the team in three-point shooting. During his time as an undergraduate, Hansen also worked in the athletic department as a Student Director of Career Outreach where he fostered relationships between student-athletes and the alumni while also organizing the annual Athletic Alumni Night. Before earning his sociology degree at Willamette, he was a two-year captain and all-conference selection at Galena High School.
