POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Haverford College men's fencing team competed in the Vassar (College) Invitational on Sunday.

After falling to Sacred Heart University, West Point, Stevens Institute of Technology, and host Vassar, the Fords found their rhythm in the last three rounds, beating Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association rivals Yeshiva University, Hunter College, and Lafayette College.

The young sabre and epee squads gained valuable experience throughout the day with several talented freshmen showing signs of promise. Dominating every team except for Stevens, the deep foil squad, full of veterans, came through with a standout performance. Against Stevens, sophomore foilist Baptiste Teyssier had the run of the strip, going 2-1. The starting foilists of Teyssier, and co-captains Lawrence Wang and Max Findley, each had 13 wins on the day, and were especially impressive in the opening round against Division I powerhouse Sacred Heart. Freshman foilist Aldis Gamble also performed well at 9-5 overall.

For the epeeists, the freshmen duo of Reid Cohen and Jake Bassinder each had winning records at 11-10 and 10-8, respectively. The sabrists were led on the day by the performance of junior Josh Nadel, who went 9-11. Freshman Ching Li, a walk-on with no previous experience in sabre, showed great promise with six wins and many more close matches.

Haverford returns to action on Saturday as it hosts the Haverford Invitational.
