BALTIMORE - Led by strong individual performances in each of their three weapons, the Haverford College men's fencing team placed fifth overall out of 15 teams at the 65th Annual MACFA Championship held at Johns Hopkins University.

Haverford's foil squad, led by co-captain Max Findley, turned in the strongest team performance of the day with a fourth place showing. Aldis Gamble and Devin Louis were also featured in this weapon. The sabre and epee squads were led by co-captain Joshua Nadel and Eric Gardner, respectively. They each registered fifth place team finishes. Host Johns Hopkins won the overall team event, as well as the foil and sabre squad tallies. Close behind was NJIT, followed by Cornell, Stevens Tech, and Haverford.

Qualifying for the individual portion of the competition were Findley, Nadel, and Gardner, as well as Gamble and epeeist Jake Bassinder. Nadel won his first match in the sabre competition, only to fall to eventual winner, JHU's Sandy Vingoes, 15-11. Findley made it to the medal round in the foil and finished with a fourth place finish, while epeeist Gardner powered through to a Bronze medal with a victory over Navy in the fence-off for third place.

Men's fencing will now head to Duke University for the NCAA Regional. Haverford will be represented by the aforementioned fencers, along with Kailash Faris (epee) and Ching Li (sabre).
