Christopher Spencer Selected as U.S. Coach for World University Games

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College men's and women's fencing coach Christopher Spencer has been selected as a coach on the U.S. cadre for the World University Games that will be held in Taiwan this summer. The World University Games are the largest multi-sport events in the world with the exception of the Olympics games.

Coach Spencer recently completed his 10th season with the Haverford College fencing programs.  Currently a member of the NCAA Championships Committee, Spencer was selected as the EWFC Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2013 and MACFA Coach of the Year in 2011. Excelling with both teams, he has led the men and women to three conference titles apiece during his tenure with the Fords. Under Spencer's direction, Haverford has placed an athlete in the finals of the NCAA Regional Championships almost every year, and in all three weapons. In 2011, the Fords won bronze in both men's epee and women's foil at the National Weapon Squad Championships.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Haverford, Spencer is also an accomplished artist and muralist, with private commissions, gallery shows, and church restoration work with Master Liturgical Design across the East Coast.

Contested every two years, the 39th annual edition of the World University Games will run from August 16-26 in Taipei, China (Taiwan). During the 2015 World University Games, the United States took home a pair of bronze medals in fencing as the team medaled in the women's individual epee and the women's team epee.
