PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College men's fencing teammates Nicholas Conroy and Kadan Lottick have both been voted to the 2019-20 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area at-large team. The all-area team of 10 individuals is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

The at-large teams take into account those student-athletes from area schools whose sports do not have a dedicated Academic All-Area team. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

Nicholas Conroy earns the academic honor in his first year eligible for the award as he just completed his sophomore campaign. A two-time regional qualifier, Haverford's sabrist placed 32nd overall at that championship this winter. He also earned qualification into the MACFA direct elimination bouts where he was credited with a 12th place finish at the conference meet. Leading up to his stellar postseason, Conroy defeated an All-American from Duke at the Penn State Invitational and had a winning record in eight of the Fords' weekends of competition against a very competitive schedule.

Kadan Lottick served as a team captain and won his third straight MACFA medal as he was the runner-up in epee. That medal came after back-to-back bronze medal performances at the conference meet during his sophomore and junior seasons. Haverford's co-captain went 10-4 in the seeding bouts at the conference championship before advancing to the individual finals. Lottick continued his success as he capped his career as a four-time qualifier to the NCAA regional championship and was the team's highest finisher with a 21st place showing. Other notable performances from his regular season include a perfect 7-0 mark during the team's lone home, the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational, along with 14 wins at Vassar and eight more against primarily Division I competition at the Philadelphia Invitational.

A total of three Haverford student-athletes were named to the men's at-large academic all-area team. Conroy and Lottick were joined by Haverford College cricket senior Daniel Van Beveren. Only the University of Pennsylvania, with four honorees, slightly edged out the Fords for the most selections.
