Virtual Senior Days: Haverford College Men's Fencing Class of 2021

With the 2020-21 winter sports unable to hold traditional Senior Days on campus, the Haverford College Athletic Department is recognizing these seniors in a virtual ceremony, with some special help from their teammates. Today, we celebrate the careers of Haverford College men's fencing seniors Raynor Bond-Ashpole, Kagan Harris, and Alton Wiggers.

Men's Fencing Team Accomplishments Over Past Four Years

  • Maintained Haverford's strong tradition as one of the top Division III fencing programs
  • Three consecutive fourth place finishes at MACFA Championships
  • Fords won 56 duals facing some of the toughest competition in the entire country, including Division I schools
  • Helped head coach Chris Spencer achieve 200th career victory on the men's side with a dominant 24-3 victory against Army-West Point to close the 2018-19 season

Raynor Bond-Ashpole • Epee • History major; Environmental Studies minor • Hempstead, N.Y. • Collegiate School

  • Key part of championship lineup during both his sophomore and junior seasons
  • Won nine bouts from the "B" slot during the 2019 MACFA Championships
  • Was team's team top epeeist during the 2019 MACFA duals
  • Returning to the postseason lineup again in 2020 after studying abroad during the fall semester
  • Semifinalist for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Kagan Harris • Sabre • Psychology major; Neuroscience minor • Ipswich, Massachusetts • St. John's Preparatory School

  • Helped sabrists attain back-to-back runner-up finishes during the 2018 and 2019 MACFA Championships
  • Contributed key 5-1 record during the "B" vs. "C" MACFA weekend in 2019
  • Went 8-4 during that same weekend in 2020
  • Added eight more individual victories at the end of year 2020 MACFA Championships
  • Recognized with the "Team Player" award following the 2019 season

Alton Wiggers • Foil • Computer Science major • Atlanta, Georgia • The Lovett School

  • Two-year team captain
  • Two-time NCAA Regional qualifier, placing as high as 28th during his career
  • Two-time qualifier to the MACFA direct elimination bouts, placing a career-best 12th during his junior season
  • Won 31 career over three years at the end of year MACFA Championships
  • Placed 27th at the 2018 Temple Open
