Late barrage leads No. 18 Bullets over No. 7 men’s lacrosse, 10-4

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The No. 7 Haverford College men's lacrosse team overcame a slow start to tie up No. 18 Gettysburg College early in the third period, but the Bullets outscored Haverford, 6-1, in the final 15 minutes to take Saturday's Centennial Conference opener, 10-4.

Gettysburg (5-3, 1-0 CC) established a 3-0 lead after two Danno Lynch first period goals and one by J.C. Ward early in the second. The Fords rallied back to tie the score thanks to late second period goals by Phillip Valliant and Max Hjelm and one by Jason Leeds early in the third.

The score remained tied until Chris Cahill scored on an assist from Tommy Barnett with 5:44 remaining in the third. After Cahill's goal, the Bullets scored three more times in the first three minutes of the fourth period to go up, 7-3.

Hjelm scored on a Travis Gregory helper at the 8:20 mark, but eight seconds later Henry Tessar scored to put Gettysburg back up by four. The Bullets added two more goals in the final six minutes to provide the final margin.

Joe Banno made 13 saves for Haverford (5-2, 0-1) while Bullets goalie J.T. McCook also came up with 13 stops.

The Fords return home Wednesday to host Washington College at 7 p.m.
