Men's lax drops tight match-up at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – A seven-goal streak pushed Haverford College's men's lacrosse team into the early lead Saturday afternoon at McDaniel College, but the host Green Terror stormed back with eight unanswered markers and eventually held on for a 13-11 Centennial Conference decision over the visiting Fords.

Brandon Boccellari led the attack for Haverford (1-8, 0-3 CC) scoring his first four goals of the season to finish the game as its leading scorer. Teammate Jack Bodine netted two goals and both he and Boccellari collected two assists apiece.

McDaniel (4-6, 1-2) was led by Timothy McNichol and Patrick Serio who scored three goals apiece in the win.

The Fords' string of seven straight goals started midway through the first period when Boccellari converted a feed from Bodine to tie the score at 1-1.

Boccellari's goal was the first of a four-goal burst that lasted two minutes. Tav Hafner, Bodine, Andrew Dalke and Chris Christensen, along with two more from Boccellari, completed a string that finished with Haverford leading 7-1 halfway through the second.

McDaniel scored three times before the halftime break, then pumped in five more unanswered tallies to forge a 9-7 lead in the third.

Richard Greenberg pulled the Fords back within one on a goal at the 4:30 mark however the Green Terror responded with three consecutive goals to push their advantage to 12-8 with 8:50 to play.

Boccellari and Christensen scored for Haverford to trim the deficit to two, 12-10, but McNichol upped it to three with his final goal at the 6:27 mark. Bodine, from Boccellari, added a goal with five minutes remaining but that would end the rainy day's scoring.

Goalie Eric Caliendo came up with 13 saves in the cage for Haverford while Christian Dallmus registered 10 saves between the pipes to earn the win for McDaniel.

The season continues Saturday, April 5 for Haverford as Dickinson College visits Swan Field for another Centennial match-up.
