Men's Lacrosse Roars Past FDU-Florham, 13-6

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's lacrosse team scored the final eight goals of Saturday's game against FDU-Florham, turning a 6-5 deficit into a 13-6 victory. Overall, the Fords (2-2) had a 9-2 edge over the final 30 minutes of play for their second straight win of the season. The teams were deadlocked at four-all heading into the halftime break.

Isaac Krier tallied four second half goals on just eight shots to lead the Haverford attack. Richard Greenberg added two goals in the opening period, while scoring his third goal of the game at the start of the fourth. Max Ellis and Geoff Geppert added the Fords' two goals in the second period, while Jack Russ, Jack Sollee, Kevin Goshorn, and Chase Williams each tallied in the second half. Williams' goal was his team-leading eighth of the season as he has scored in all four games to start the year. The goals for Ellis and Goshorn were the first of their Haverford careers.

Neither team led by two goals until there was just 5:42 to play in the third period. Greenberg opened the scoring just under 90 seconds into the contest. The Devils answered with two goals before Greenberg and Ellis came back with goals of their own to give Haverford the lead again. The teams then traded goals to make the score four-all at the break.

The Devils started off the second half with a goal just five seconds into the period as Dalton Rimmer won the face off himself and scored unassisted. Krier took a feed from Williams to tie the game at five, but the Devils answered that with their sixth goal of the game.

However, FDU-Florham's goal with 9:27 left in third would be the final time it held a lead. Haverford's defense, anchored by Eric Caliendo in goal, held the visiting Devils off the scoreboard for the final 20:33 of playing time. Haverford answered the 6-5 edge just 41 seconds later when Andrew Fenaroli forced a turnover in the defensive zone. Getting the ball up to Russ, his goal tied the game at six-all.

Haverford took the lead for good when the Fords were able to capitalize on a settled attack from Krier with 6:51 to play in the third. Just 59 seconds later, it was Sollee that gave the Fords an 8-6 advantage, the first two goal lead of the afternoon. In total, Haverford scored five times in the third period, the team's highest output of the day. The final four goals of that span that gave the hosts a 9-6 lead heading to the fourth period all came within a span of 6:31.

Greenberg finished his hat trick when he opened the fourth period scoring just under 90 seconds into the action. The Fords also got goals from Goshorn, Krier, and Williams within a span of 1:43 to put the finishing touches on their 13-6 win.

After winning just two face offs in the opening half, Haverford won six such attempts during the final 30 minutes of play. This, in turn, led to a 31-9 edge in shots for the final 30 minutes of play. The two sides each had 14 shots in the opening half. Ben Miltenberg won a team-high five face offs for the Fords.

Caliendo came up with 13 saves on 19 shots on goal from the Devils' attack for his second straight win of the year. Of the 45 ground ball pickups from the Fords, the junior goalkeeper accounted for four of these. Mitch Hagan led Haverford with five ground balls, while Matt Corbin also had four pickups. Twelve different players forced a turnover in the Haverford defensive end. Fenaroli led his squad with three such efforts.

With momentum back on its side, men's lacrosse will travel to Gwynedd Mercy this coming Wednesday. That road contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
