Caliendo Repeats Academic All-Area Selection

Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse Team

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Eric Caliendo has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team for the second straight season. The All-American is one of 12 student-athletes honored on the all-area team. The honorees are voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

Caliendo's most recent accolade adds to a growing list of accomplishments as the senior captain was named to the USILA All-America team as an honorable mention pick along with garnering USILA Scholar All-American status. He was also named the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Centennial Conference Male Sportsmanship Award recipient and a second-team All-Centennial Conference performer.

Honored as a Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week during the 2016 season, Caliendo started every game for Haverford and played all but a few minutes late in four games which the Fords had sizeable advantages. He allowed just 7.01 goals against average and stopped 58.8 percent of the shots he faced on the season. Caliendo also ranked third in the team in ground balls (51) and fifth in caused turnovers (14). He made at least 10 saves in eight different games, including a season-high 19 saves in a win against McDaniel. His goals against average for the year was the third best single season mark in program history.

Caliendo is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse team by Saint Joseph's teammates Chris Blewitt and Pat Swanick, Gwynedd Mercy's Marc Bushong (performer of the Year, Chestnut Hill's Alec Dambach, Tyler Gehlhaus of Eastern, Cabrini's Ethan Heisman, Widener teammates Mark LaVine and Tim Taylor, Swarthmore's Cam Marsh, Devin McNamara of Villanova, and Ursinus' Brian Neff.
