Season Review: Men's Lacrosse Continues Push for Postseason Return

Signature Win: The Haverford College men's lacrosse team earned its first win over a ranked opponent since the 2013 season when the Fords took down No. 19 Ursinus during their final road game of the year. Despite going down 3-0 in the first quarter, Haverford scored three straight to tie the game. Trailing 8-6 in the fourth quarter, Haverford got goals from Kevin Goshorn and Isaac Krier in the fourth quarter before Ben Frost's goal with 6.7 seconds left in the first overtime sealed the victory. The victory over Ursinus was Haverford's first against the Bears since the 2012 season.

Season Notes: Haverford identically matched its season record from 2016, going 7-8 overall with a 3-5 record in the Centennial Conference under first-year head coach Brendan Dawson … PJ Jackson was named a third-team USILA All-American, becoming just the third player in program history to be named to an All-American team (Max Hjelm '11; third-team in 2010) & (Joe Banno '12; third-team in 2011) … The Fords have now had All-Americans in back-to-back seasons after Eric Caliendo '16 was named honorable mention All-America in 2016 … Jackson was also the first player in program history to earn Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors since the award's inception in 2014 … Jackson was the first player since Scott Chanelli '13 to play in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star game … Thirteen players in total have been selected for that game …  Haverford's 19 student-athletes on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll were the most in program history and the most of any men's lacrosse team in the Centennial Conference.

Looking ahead: Seventeen different players started a game during the 2017 season and all but the three graduating seniors will return. Goalie Dylan Slack, Chandler Todd, and Isaac Krier all joined Jackson as players who started all 15 games. Krier will join Patrick Girard as a two-year captain. Krier led the team in scoring with 21 goals and eight assists in 2016 while Ben Frost led the team in that category with 23 goals and three assists this season. In total, each of Haverford's top seven point producers from the 2017 team will return. In addition to Todd on defense, who was a second-team All-CC selection in 2016, Max Ellis will also return after leading the team in caused turnovers two years ago. Zack Cohen will also be in his third year as the team's faceoff man.
