Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Release
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Ben Frost and Dylan Slack were both named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team. Frost earns the honor for his second straight season, while Slack earned the recognition for the first time in his career. The all-area team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
In order to be eligible for academic all-area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. Haverford was one of only three NCAA schools, including Division I, II, and III with more than one student-athlete named to the academic all-area team.
Ben Frost was an honorable mention All-Centennial Conference selection as a first line middie. He played in all 15 games, tying for the team lead with 21 goals. Frost held the outright team lead in man-up goals (4), shots (86), and shots on goal (52). He finished the year with 25 total points. Frost recorded an offensive point during each contest, scoring a goal in every game but one. Highlighting his conference performances, where he scored 12 goals, Frost finished with a hat trick plus an assist against Franklin & Marshall. He also scored two goals against Washington College, Ursinus, and during the Centennial Conference semifinal game at Gettysburg. His most notable goal was the game-winner against Swarthmore that sent Haverford to the Centennial Conference Tournament.
Dylan Slack was a second-team All-Centennial Conference goalie. As a junior, Slack was the last line for one of the toughest defenses in the Centennial Conference. He started all 15 games and was the goalie of record during each contest. Slack stopped 59 percent of the shots he faced, making 173 total saves. He finished the year with an 8.22 GAA and ranked third on the team with 45 ground balls. Slack was called on to make 10 or more saves during 10 different games. He made a season-high 20 saves during a 9-3 win against Stockton. In conference contests, his performances were highlighted by a 15 save effort during the 9-7 win against Washington College. He denied another 17 shots on goal during the 6-4 win against Ursinus on Senior Day. His 96 saves in conference games were the most in the conference, while his overall GAA was the second best among his conference peers.
Men's lacrosse made its first postseason appearance since the 2011 season this season, winning seven games. The team's seventh win of the year came in the final minutes against Swarthmore to send the Fords to the Centennial Conference semifinals where they eventually were defeated by top-seeded Gettysburg, 7-5. Haverford made its seventh trip to the Centennial Conference Tournament this past season, with a string of six successive appearances during the 2006-11 seasons.
