Late goal helps Mules edge men’s soccer, 1-0

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A goal by Mike Williams in the 82nd minute gave No. 19 Muhlenberg College a 1-0 victory over the Haverford College men's soccer team Saturday afternoon.

Williams intercepted a Haverford (7-5-2, 3-3-1 CC) pass and sent in his goal from just inside the box.

Muhlenberg (9-0-6, 4-0-3 CC) maintained possession for much of the game thanks to a lopsided 14-1 difference in shots. Haverford held the Mules to just five first half shots, but in the second Muhlenberg took nine.

Nick Kahn made five saves for the Fords in his first collegiate start. Jason Daniels did not need to make any saves en route to a shutout.

Haverford sits in sixth place with 10 points in the Centennial Conference with two games remaining. Johns Hopkins University, Dickinson College and Gettysburg College are all tied for fourth with 11 points.

The Fords host Washington College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. before closing out the regular season at No. 1 Swarthmore next Saturday.
