Late goals send Bullets past Fords

HAVERFORD, Pa. - An Adam Morollo goal early in the second half gave Haverford College's men's soccer team the lead but visiting Getttysburg College scored twice in the final 10 minutes to rally for a 2-1 Centennial Conference victory over the Fords on a sunny but chilly Saturday afternoon at Walton Field.

The opening half of action was scoreless but not without opportunities as Haverford (8-5, 4-2 Centennial) forced Gettysburg (5-7-1, 1-4-1) goalie Connor Darrell to come up with four saves.

Morollo finally broke the deadlock when he ripped a shot from 10 yards out into the upper, left corner of the goal in the 56th minute. Sam Yarosh found Brady Seitz open within the penalty box where Seitz was able to find an unmarked Morollo even with the left post. The crossing pass and laser shot gave Darrell no chance and pushed Haverford ahead, 1-0.

The Fords continued to pressure in the Bullets' defensive end but weren't able to add to their narrow lead as Darrell came up with four more saves in the half.

The equalizer for Gettysburg came at the 80:08 mark on an unassisted goal by Craig Heckman. And then with the game ticking toward the 88-minute mark, the Bullets' Dan McNamara found teammate Noah Sheetz-Ziegel with a thru ball and Sheets-Ziegel was able to loft a high shot over charging Haverford goalie Andriy Mshanetskyy who could do nothing but turn and watch as the high-arcing ball skimmed under the crossbar for the eventual game-winner.

Haverford pressured in their offensive end over the final two minutes but was not able to find the tying score in a heart breaking loss in front of alumni from the program's three -- 1976, 1977 and 1980 -- NCAA tournament teams.

Mshanetskyy (8-4), who had not been scored upon in the last 258 minutes and 31 seconds prior to Gettysburg's first goal Saturday, took the loss between the pipes for Haverford after making three saves. Darrell (4-4-1) earned the win for the Bullets with eight stops.

Haverford steps out of Centennial action for the last time during the 2012 schedule with its next game, a Wednesday night non-conference contest at 7 p.m. against host and 19th-ranked Rutgers-Camden.
