HAVERFORD, Pa. - Clutch goals seem to find Ford Bohrmann's feet as the senior added another to his list notching the overtime game-winner (video) Saturday afternoon in 14th-ranked Haverford College's 2-1 non-conference victory over visiting Vassar College at Walton Field.
Haverford pushes its early-season record to 3-0 with the win over the Brewers (2-1) during the opening day of the Fords' annual Jimmy Mills Classic.
Bohrmann's string of heroics began last fall with game-winning tallies in Haverford's pair of 1-0 wins in the semifinals and finals of the 2012 Centennial Conference postseason tournament. In the 2013 season opener he notched the tying and winning goal in a 3-2 win over Drew University then scored the first two goals of the Fords' 3-1 win over SUNY-Geneseo the following day.
Against Vassar, Bohrmann was part of a duo that had to rally the Fords despite a decided edge in the many statistical categories in the scorebook.
Haverford owned an 8-0 edge in shots and 10-0 advantage in corner kick chances during the opening 45 minutes of action against Vassar but had to settle for a scoreless tie at the intermission.
However, the Brewers, on their first real scoring push in the game, got on the board first with a goal from Zach Nasipak in the 60th minute. That lead failed to last much longer than the blink of an eye as Haverford streaked down the field with it's ensuing possession and gained the equalizer from Jamie Reingruber four seconds later.
The game opened up a bit over the next 30 minutes forcing each goalie to come up with saves to allow the score to remain knotted at 1-1.
The Fords' Nick Kahn came up with a pair of huge saves on Vassar shots in the 81st minute and the Brewers' Ryan Grimme preserved the tie with a save on Bohrmann with 90 seconds remaining in regulation.
The teams traded possession in the early going of the overtime period before Colin Seitz possessed almost to the end line to the left of the goal before firing off a crossing pass to the front from where Bohrmann was able to bury his game-winner behind Grimme.
Haverford finished the game with a 19-6 edge in shots. Kahn, who had an easy first half without the need for a save, earned the win between the pipes with five saves while Grimme took the loss after stopping seven.
In the opening game of Saturday's Classic, Kean University downed Ursinus College by a count of 5-1.
The Classic continues Sunday afternoon at Walton with Ursinus and Vassar squaring off in a 1 p.m. game with Kean and Haverford to follow at approximately 3:30 p.m.
