GLENSIDE, Pa. – Haverford College's men's soccer team put forth a strong effort Wednesday night at Arcadia University, downing the host Knights 2-0 in a non-conference match-up that was inches away -- several times -- of being an even larger winning margin.

The Fords (6-1) generated a swarming attack all night chalking up goals from Will Corkery and Sam Yarosh, in addition to three posts and an Arcadia defensive save, on the team's way to the win over the Knights (3-5-1).

Corkery knocked home a feed from Nikko Giannasca midway through the game's 35th minute to put Haverford on top with what ended as the game-winning goal.

Though it was out shot 31-5 on the night, Arcadia did its best to hold firm against the constant pressure, preventing the Fords from doubling their lead until the second half.

Jamie Reingruber was the first to find the post on a header in the 60th minute. Yarosh finally completed the task of adding to the scoreboard with a goal at the end of the 62nd minute for his fifth marker of the season.

That would be the end of the scoring on the night for either team but Haverford certainly had its chances including a string of consecutive shots that would have had the scoreboard lights blinking.

Matthew Clausen hit the post at 74:59, then forced a save from Arcadia goalkeeper Ryan Lantzy a little more than two minutes later. He hit the post with another shot late in the 79th with Corkery gathering the loose ball eventually and getting off a shot that a defender was forced to clear from the goal line 22 seconds later.

At the other end of the pitch, Haverford netminder Nick Kahn had a fairly easy night needing to come up with only three saves to earn the shutout victory. Lantzy took the loss after stopping nine shots.

The Fords leap into a string of three straight Centennial Conference games with their next outing, a 4 p.m. contest on Saturday against host Gettysburg College.
