HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team has been picked to finish second in the Centennial Conference in 2014 in a poll of the conference coaches. The Fords received two of the 10 first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll. Haverford received 67 total voting points.

Franklin & Marshall, the 2013 Centennial Conference Champions, received five first-place votes and 76 total voting points to top the preseason poll. Dickinson (67 points), Swarthmore (59 points), and Johns Hopkins (55 points) each received one first-place vote to round out the top five.

Haverford has made the Centennial Conference Tournament in each of its first three seasons under head coach Shane Rineer. The Fords made the conference championship match in both the 2011 and 2012 season, winning the title in 2012 after falling in penalty kicks the previous season. Last year, the Fords went 11-5-2 overall, including a 5-2-2 mark in the Centennial Conference. That record earned the Fords the top spot in the conference's regular season standings and the right to host the Centennial Conference Tournament for the first time in program history.

The Fords' 2014 lineup returns four of its top five scorers from a season ago. Junior Sam Yarosh is one of six players in the conference that returns after earning first-team All-Centennial Conference honors last season. Yarosh scored six goals and added two assists last season. Sophomore Tejan Walcott scored five goals last year, while junior Brady Seitz and sophomore Matthew Clausen each added three goals in 2013. The Fords also return Dorian Wirz, the 2013 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year.

Men's soccer will host its annual alumni game this Saturday, August 23 at 1 p.m. The regular season gets underway on the road at Goucher on August 31 at 3 p.m. for the Fords. Haverford's first conference meeting will be September 20 at home against Johns Hopkins.
