Men's Soccer Outlasts Lebanon Valley, 1-0

ANVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team gutted out a 1-0 victory on the road Saturday afternoon at Lebanon Valley. Playing down a man – 10v9 to be precise after three red cards were issued during a very physical second half of soccer - the Fords (3-1) finally broke through with a goal from Tejan Walcott in the 88th minute of play.

Walcott's goal came after a very busy day from him offensively as he finished with a match-high four shots on the afternoon. However, it was his second shot on goal that would make the difference in the final score. Walcott's goal was his second this season and the third game-winning goal of his career.

Field was credited with the assist on the play after playing the cross to Walcott. This assist was the first of Field's collegiate career. Field also scored the game-winning goal in the win over William Paterson. Field's assist also capped a busy day for him as he tied Walcott with a match-high four shots on his afternoon.

Haverford held the edge in all of the offensive statistics for the game as the Fords took 18 shots compared to just 13 for Lebanon Valley. The Fords also had an 11-9 advantage in shots on goal, while maintaining an 8-6 edge in corner kick attempts.

Despite those statistical advantages, Lebanon Valley had taken five of the last six shots in the contest leading up to Walcott's goal. The goal came in quick transition as it happened just 25 seconds after a save from Sam Miller on the other end of the field.

In goal, Miller recorded his first shutout on the young season. Miller was called on to make nine saves on the afternoon. His work load was basically even as he stopped four shots in the opening half and five in the final 45 minutes of play.

The Fords' edge in offense was more pronounced over the first 45 minutes as they took nine shots in the opening half, compared to just four from Lebanon Valley. The two sides were even with nine shots each in the final 45 minutes. In addition to Field and Walcott, six other players recorded shots for the Fords on the afternoon. Will Corkery took three shots, while Colin Seitz and Brady Seitz each had a pair of shots in the win.

Men's soccer will be back on the road Wednesday night as the team travels to Kean for a 7:30 p.m. start time. That match will be the Fords' final tune-up before the start of conference play at home against Johns Hopkins next Saturday.
