Men's Soccer Takes Down Stockton, 2-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Brady Seitz connected on a pair of goals from Will Corkery to lead the Haverford College men's soccer team past Stockton University, 2-0. The Fords (4-3) bookended Wednesday's action with goals in the seventh minute of play and the 89th minute of action. With the win, Haverford handed the Ospreys (7-2), a team receiving votes in the latest NSCAA Poll, their first loss in four matches.

Seitz's two goals were the second and third of his season and included his first game-winning goal of the year. Corkery now has five assists through the first seven games. Wednesday's score line was a flashback to last season for Haverford as Seitz and Corkery led the Centennial Conference in goals and assists during the regular season.

The Fords held their heaviest statistical edge of the match in the corner kick attempts with a 5-2 advantage after the full 90 minutes. They made the most of their second chance at the corner in the seventh minute of play. Playing a ball directly into the box, Seitz was able to rise above the Stockton defense for the early 1-0 lead. Haverford also had a chance late in the half as William Edwards found an opening in the defense before his shot was saved in the 42nd minute.

Stockton took nine shots in total for the match and had both of its attempts at corner kick opportunities during the second half of play. However, Sam Miller came up with four saves in the contest to notch his second shutout of the season. Miller made two saves in each half as he denied the potential game-tying bid in the 51st minute of play and recorded his final save of the evening with time winding down and the score 2-0 in favor of Haverford.

Haverford took seven shots during the second half; however, it was not until the Fords' final shot of the evening that the home team established an insurance goal. With just over a minute to play, Corkery played a long ball just inside of the midfield line and found Seitz on the opposite side of the field. Seitz was able to touch around his defender at the box for the one-on-one finish against the goalie and firmly secure the victory.

The Fords finished the evening with a 12-9 edge in shots for the match. Corkery led the team with three shots, while Seitz was able to score on both of his shot attempts to fuel the offense. Russell Nicholson also had two shots in the contest.

Men's soccer will resume Centennial Conference action this weekend as McDaniel comes to Walton Field Saturday. That match is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start and is part of doubleheader with the women's soccer team first taking on Stevenson at 1 p.m.
