HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sam Yarosh checked off another career accomplishment to his ever growing list of accolades as the Fords' two-year captain was named a second-team NSCAA All-American. Yarosh adds to a historic list of Haverford All-Americans over the course of the storied program's history. The team last had an All-American in Howard Morris '86.
The first Centennial Conference Player of the Year in program history, Yarosh led the Centennial Conference in both goals (17) and points (39). He also tied for the Centennial Conference lead and helped set a new school record along with teammate Will Corkery as they both tallied seven game-winning goals on the season. The three-time All-Centennial Conference selection, including two first-team nods, is just the third player in Haverford history to lead the conference in goals, joining Rich Billings '00 (18 goals in 1996) and Frank Adamson '98 (18 goals in 1997). Adamson is the only other player during the Centennial Conference era to lead the conference in points as he had 50 points (18 goals and 14 assists) during the 1997 season. Yarosh was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week on four separate occasions during the 2015 season.
Yarosh recently earned his second recognition on the NSCAA All-Region team as a first-team representative. He was also a third-team honoree during the 2013 season. Instrumental in the Fords' success, Yarosh found the back of the net during 13 different contests. Haverford went a perfect 13-0 on those days. His highest scoring game came when he recorded a hat trick against Rosemont with three goals and an assist to fuel an 8-2 victory. He also had two goal outings in the 2-1 win against Scranton to start the year and during a 4-3 victory at Gettysburg. Eight of his goals during the regular season came in Centennial Conference play to help the team go 9-0 in conference play, becoming the first men's soccer team to accomplish that feat since 2006.
During the postseason, Yarosh continued his offensive exploits with a goal in Haverford's Centennial Conference semifinal victory against Johns Hopkins during the team's run to its conference title. He also scored the game-winning goal in the 2-0 victory against St. Lawrence during the NCAA Tournament Third Round match that put Haverford into the Elite Eight for the first time in program history. The Fords finished the year with a school-record 18 wins against just four losses. The season also included a program-record 16 game winning streak. Haverford went on to secure the top spot in the regional rankings and subsequent first round bye in the NCAA Tournament before serving as host of the NCAA Regional and Sectional Rounds for the first time in program history.
Yarosh graduates from Haverford as the College's all-time leader with 77 games started over his four seasons. He is ranked 12th all-time in program history with his 33 goals and 77 career points. His 11 game-winning goals over his career rank behind only Billings and Adamson. Yarosh's 17 goals this fall are tied for fifth in a single season at Haverford with five other players. His 39 points in 2015 are tied for eighth on the school's all-time single-season list.
In the classroom, Yarosh also excelled as he was named the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was also voted as a CoSIDA first-team Academic All-America selection after earning first-team All-District III honors as well. Yarosh was also named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll during each of his three eligible seasons.
One of four members of the Haverford College men's soccer senior class, Yarosh and his senior teammates will graduate with a record of 52-24-4 during their four years as the second-winningest class in program history. They graduate as two-time Centennial Conference Champions and earned the best regular season record in the conference during two of the past three seasons.
