Yarosh Named Philadelphia Inquirer Overall Performer of the Year

PhillySIDA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sam Yarosh '16 has been named the 2015-16 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Overall Performer of the Year on the men's side. He wins the award alongside the University of Pennsylvania's Jenna Hebert (women's rowing) who won the award on the women's side.

In conjunction with the Philadelphia Inquirer, PhillySIDA names 24 Academic All-Area teams during the course of the academic year—12 in men's sports, 12 in women's sports—and has a Performer of the Year in each of those sports. At the end of the year, all of the Performers of the Year are put on a second ballot, and PhillySIDA members vote to determine both a male and female Overall Performer of the Year.

Yarosh was named a first-team D3Soccer.com All-America and a second-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America this fall, as well as the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year after leading the conference in goals (17) and points (39) while setting a program record for match-winning goals in a season (7). The two-time captain led Haverford to an 18-4 record that included a program-record 16 straight victories. The Fords fell in the NCAA quarterfinal round, 1-0 (OT), and ended the year ranked sixth in the NSCAA Division 3 national poll.

A four-time Centennial Conference Player of the Week in 2015, Yarosh was a three-time All-Centennial Conference pick during his career, including first-team honors in 2013 and 2015.

In the classroom, Yarosh was a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America and first-team NSCAA Scholar All-America selection. At the end of the school year, he was co-recipient of Haverford's Varsity Cup, recipient of the College's Stephen G. Cary '37 Award, and recognized as an Ambler Scholar-Athlete.

An NCAA Postgraduate recipient, Yarosh will attended Penn next year as part of Haverford's 4+1 program and work towards his Masters in engineering degree.

Yarosh is the second student-athlete in school history to win the Overall Performer of the Year as he joins Christopher Stadler '14 who won this honor during his senior cross country and track & field seasons.
