Maclyn Willigan Named CC Defensive Player of the Week

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Maclyn Willigan has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by conference officials. Willigan stabilized a defense that shut out Stockton and McDaniel by identical 1-0 scores during this past week.

Playing with a defense that was missing three of its four regular starters, Willigan helped limit the opposition to just five shots on goal in the two shutout victories. Against Stockton, Willigan played every minute of the double overtime contest until Ben Field scored the game-winning goal in the 109th minute.

Haverford traveled to McDaniel on Saturday and Willigan was part of a defense that allowed just two shots on the afternoon. Both of those shots were saved by Sam Miller as the team now has five clean sheets in its first eight games. The Fords are allowing just 0.58 goals per game which is the top mark in the Centennial Conference.

In addition to his most recent accolade, William was a second-team All-Centennial Conference defender for the Fords last season and has twice been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. The senior captain has started all but one game in his Haverford career.

Men's soccer has two Centennial Conference matchups this week as Washington College and Gettysburg both come to Walton Field. The Shoremen will take on the Fords at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Gettysburg, the only other unbeaten and untied team in the conference, will come to campus on Saturday for 3:30 p.m. showdown. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Fords.
