Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – The No. 13 Haverford College men's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its regular season schedule with a 1-1 draw at Scranton on Tuesday night. The Fords (9-2-3) and Royals (10-3-1) each scored on direct kicks but went deadlocked for the final 57 minutes of regulation and overtime.

Will Corkery opened the scoring for Haverford in the 31st minute of game action. Taking a direct kick from just outside of the box, Corkery's goal was his second of the season. Scranton answered during the 54th minute as Pat Codispoti found the back of the net to level the game at one-all.

Haverford finished the night with a 15-14 advantage in shots as each side recorded five shots on goal over the 110 minutes. Nevertheless, it was one of the game's first shots that the Fords looked to possibly have an early 1-0 advantage but a shot from Nick Jannelli rang off the post in the fifth minute of action. The Royals closed the regulation session with the post acting as the Fords' ally following a shot from Scranton that bounced off in the 90th minute.

Corkery had the Fords' first chance in the overtime session as he put a shot over the crossbar with time running out on the first overtime session. Dorian Wirz saw his shot in the second overtime session also travel high of the goal on the Fords' final shot attempt of the night.

Jeremy Astesano made four saves for the Fords to move to 2-0-2 in his career. Two of his saves came in the first overtime session to stay unbeaten on the year. His counterpart, Eric Hintz, also made four saves for the Royals on the night.

With the conclusion of the non-conference schedule, the Fords now turn their attention to the pursuit of home field advantage for the Centennial Conference playoffs. Haverford will take on second place and No. 3 Franklin & Marshall this Saturday. The Fords are two points clear of the Diplomats and can put themselves up five points in the conference standings with just two Centennial matches to go with a win. That match up will get underway at 4 p.m. in Lancaster.
