LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 13 Haverford College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime battle to No. 3 Franklin & Marshall on the road Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Diplomats (11-1-3, 6-0-1 CC) take a one point advantage in the Centennial Conference standings into the final week of the regular season with Saturday's result against the Fords (9-3-3, 6-1 CC).

Franklin & Marshall scored the game-winning goal in the 94th minute when Robert Maze tallied his fourth goal of the season off an assist from Wyatt Fabian. That goal broke the Fords' 17 game unbeaten streak in conference regular season play that dated back to the 2014 season when they lost to Franklin & Marshall on the road before avenging that loss in the conference semifinals. Haverford had been outright winners of its previous 15 Centennial Conference regular season contests.

The Fords seemed to have the edge in opportunities early on Saturday as they took the first two shots of the game. However, Nick Jannelli's early run at goal was saved while a shot from Reiss Berger was blocked down by the Diplomats defense early in the opening half. Haverford also saw its first three shots of the second half saved by Dave Reingold as Dorian Wirz, Jannelli, and Tejan Walcott each were looking to put the Fords on the board first.

The Diplomats scored on the first threat either team had in the overtime session. That game-winning goal put shots in favor of the Diplomats by a 14-8 margin after 93-plus minutes of soccer. Sam Miller made seven saves for the Fords, five of which came in the second half to force the extra session. His counterpart made four stops in the Diplomats' shutout victory.

Men's soccer will host its final home game of the regular season this Wednesday when it battles Ursinus in a 3:30 p.m. start on Walton Field. The Fords will close the regular season with a trip to Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore next Saturday. With today's results around the Centennial Conference the Fords have clinched a first round bye in the conference tournament and trail Franklin & Marshall by just one point in the Centennial Conference standings.
