SCRANTON, Pa. – Nick Jannelli continued his torrid start to the 2017 season with his sixth goal of the year on Wednesday night. His most recent effort came on a free kick just outside of the 18 that he bent into the upper left hand corner for a 1-0 overtime winner against Scranton with 42 seconds left in the first overtime period.

The Fords (5-1) came into the contest ranked 15th in the D3Soccer.com Poll and No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Playing another key regional matchup, the Royals (5-2) are currently ranked 18th by D3Soccer.com. Jannelli's goal was his fourth game-winning effort of the season. He now has 13 points with six goals and one assist through the team's first seven games.

Both sides had 14 shots attempts heading into the extra period where Haverford took the only three shots of that period. In regulation time, Jeremy Astesano was called on to make six saves for the Fords while a split effort from the Royals also finished with six combined saves on the night. Jannelli's goal came on his seventh shot of the event. He put three of those attempts on goal.

In the first half, Scranton had more chances on goal as Astesano came up with five saves to maintain his clean sheet. Royals' goalie Everett Minchew, who came on as a sub at halftime, stopped Haverford's five shots on goal during the second half.

Once the extra session began, Haverford continued its momentum from the second half as Russell Nicholson fired a shot over the crossbar just 52 seconds into the extra period. Ben Field later saw his bid for the game-winning goal go wide in the 93rd minute of play. Jannelli's beautiful curl into the net ultimately sealed the victory after the Royals were whistled for their second foul of the overtime period.

Picking up the win in goal, Astesano is now 5-1 on the year and holds a career record of 12-1-3. The junior goalie notched his third shutout of the season on Wednesday and now has four during his career.

Men's soccer will return to Centennial Conference play this weekend with a huge matchup against rival Franklin & Marshall on Walton Field. The rematch of last year's Centennial Conference Championship, which went 2-1 in favor of the Fords, will begin at 2 p.m. on Walton Field.
