HAVERFORD, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Haverford College men's soccer team fell to fifth-seeded Dickinson by a 5-0 score on Walton Field in the first round of the Centennial Conference Tournament Wednesday. With that result, the Red Devils (11-5-2) will move on to the semifinals of the conference tournament at Johns Hopkins Friday evening.

Dickinson got the jump early with a pair of first half goals from Matt Edmonds as he scored just 11:10 into regulation and backed that up with his second tally which came in the 35th minute. Those goals were his seventh and eighth goals of the 2017 season.

Despite the 2-0 deficit in the first, the Fords were not without chances as they sent four shots towards goal even with an opposing wind over the first 45 minutes. However, Haverford was not able to get any of those chances on target during the first half.

The visiting Red Devils then scored twice during the opening five-plus minutes of the second half to break the game wide open. In the 49th minute, Kevin Gilbert hit the post for Dickinson but Brendan McGovern was in perfect position to knock in the rebound off the post. Just 1:30 later, another rebound goal made it 4-0. That tally came off an initial save from Jeremy Astesano, but the deflection went right to the foot of Ward Van de Water. Dickinson's fifth goal came when team leader Kevin Gilbert tallied his 11th goal of the season during the 61st minute of play.

Dickinson finished the match with a 14-8 advantage in shots, while Haverford held a 4-3 edge in corner kick attempts. Jeremy Astesano came up with three saves in his 52-plus minutes of game action before Michael Iacono came on for the remaining time and gathered one save. Seniors Ben Field and Dorian Wirz had the only shots on goal of the game for the Fords. Russell Nicholson, Wirz, and Jannelli each finished the contest with two shots to lead all Haverford players.
