CARLISLE, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team fell by a 2-1 score at Dickinson on Saturday evening. The Red Devils (9-6, 5-2 CC) and Fords (7-5-3, 3-3-1 CC) both came into the match looking to improve their postseason position. Despite the Fords holding a 17-10 advantage in shots, it was the Red Devils that got a second half goal off of a free kick which proved to be the difference maker.

Dickinson got on the board first, just 2:05 into the match, as Brendan McGovern got on the end of a corner kick insert from Tayler Eynon for the first goal of the afternoon. However, the fast and furious start to Saturday's action was only beginning.

Nick Jannelli leveled the match during the 11th minute as he collected a pass inside of the 18 and was able to fake out two defenders before his shot ultimately beat the keeper to level the match at one. Jannelli's goal was the 44th of his career, tying him with Arn Jones '52 for fifth in program history. The 109th point of his standout career moved him past Phil Zipin '78 (108 career points) and into sole possession of fourth place in the school record books. Jannelli's goal was his 10th this season, giving him three consecutive seasons of double-digit goal totals. Haverford's senior captain is currently tied for the Centennial Conference lead with 25 points on the season.

The two teams went tied into the halftime break, but Mohamed Kourouma broke that deadlock for Dickinson with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation time as he connected on a free kick from about 25 yards away. The Red Devils also had another prime opportunity during the 81st minute of play when Frederick Cisse got behind the Haverford defense but a sliding defensive save from Matthieu Maciejewski kept the match at a one goal difference.

Haverford pressured for the rest of that remaining time but could not find the equalizer. The Fords earned three corners during the final 10 minutes of regulation. During the 85th minute of play, Noah Schwab got on the end of one of those corners and saw his bid for the game-tying goal bounce right off the post before it was cleared out of harm's way. Haverford also had a corner in the final few seconds which the Fords missed just to the far side of the goal on another ball played into the box.

Dickinson's Frederick Meagher made six saves to record the win in goal for the Red Devils. Michael Iacono made a pair of saves over the course of 90 minutes for the Fords. Five different players recorded multiple shots for Haverford on the afternoon. In addition to his goal, Jannelli led the Fords' offense with six shots, four of which were on goal.

Heading into the final week of the regular season, Haverford is currently sitting in sixth place in the Centennial Conference standings. Nevertheless, the Fords control their own destiny as they host fifth-place Swarthmore next Saturday on Senior Day. Before that contest is played, Haverford will welcome Ursinus to Walton Field this Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. start.
