Shane Rineer is entering his eighth season at the helm of the Haverford College men's soccer team in 2018. Rineer has quickly established Haverford as an annual favorite for the Centennial Conference Championship and appearance in the NCAA Tournament. His career record stands at 87-38-13 and his seniors have graduated as the winningest class in program history during both the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

His team has played in the Centennial Conference match during six of his seven years leading the team and has made the Centennial Conference Tournament during each of those seasons. The Fords won back-to-back Centennial Conference Championships during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In both years, Rineer’s squad has hoisted the conference trophy on Walton Field as Haverford became the first team in conference history to win both the regular season and tournament titles in back-to-back years. He also won the Centennial Conference Championship in 2012 and finished with the best regular season record in 2013. Haverford’s three NCAA Tournament appearances are currently highlighted by the team’s run to the Elite Eight in 2015 as the Fords hosted by the NCAA Regional and Sectional Rounds on Walton Field before falling shy of the Final Four in overtime. The Fords also hosted the NCAA Regional Round in 2016 before falling in penalty kicks during the second round after setting the program’s NCAA record with five goals in the first round match against Merchant Marine. In 2012, Haverford advanced to the second round with a penalty kick victory over Wesleyan.

Rineer was named both the Centennial Conference and NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, along with being a finalist for national coach of the year, following the historic 2015 season during which the Fords broke the program’s record with 18 victories. He followed that up by repeating his honor as Centennial Conference Coach of the Year in 2016. Rineer’s first season at the helm earned him the Chris Jones 2011 Coach of the Year Award from the Southeast Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association.

During the past three seasons, Haverford has established new program records for overall winning streak, home winning streak, and conference winning streak. His teams are 31-5-3 on Walton Field since the start of the 2014 season and have not lost a Centennial Conference home game since the middle of the 2013 season.

Rineer has coached 36 All-Centennial Conference selections, 12 of which have been first-team all-conference honorees. This list is highlighted by the program’s first Centennial Conference Player of the Year Sam Yarosh. He has also coached the 2013 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year and Archibald MacIntosh ’21 recipient, Dorian Wirz, and 2016 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year Nick Jannelli.

In 2010, Rineer was an assistant coach at Amherst College. He was responsible for scouting, game plan development, training, and film analysis for a Lord Jeffs team that was 13-2-4 and reached the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Before joining the Amherst staff, Rineer was a two-year assistant coach for Division I Villanova University. As the leader of the team’s player development program, he helped the Wildcats earn their first ever Big East tournament home game in 2009. Rineer also had a hand in the program’s training, scouting, film breakdown, and recruiting.

Rineer’s collegiate coaching career began with a two-year stint at Eastern University. In 2007, he helped lead the Eagles to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) title and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

A 2006 graduate of Eastern with a degree in early childhood education, Rineer earned All-PAC honors in 2004 and 2005. He was a member of the 2003 and 2005 PAC Championship teams that went to the NCAA Tournament.
