Men's squash picks up 1st win of season

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The first win of the season for Haverford College's 32nd-ranked men's squash team came easily Saturday afternoon on their home courts as the Fords rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Vassar College to earn a split on the day after falling, 6-3, to No. 43 Lehigh University in the morning.

Bret Marlowe picked up a pair of wins at the No. 6 slot for Haverford by downing Vassar's Juan Pablo Fernandez by a 3-0 count in the afternoon, following up on his 3-1 victory over Tyler Sloan of Lehigh to start off the day.

Aaron Horwitz at No. 3 and Matt Rohn at No. 7 also completed clean sweeps on the day picking up wins against the Engineers and Brewers.

The Fords were so dominant against No. 58 Vassar that in the nine matches played, Haverford lost a total of one game winning eight of the nine by 3-0 scores.

Rohn's victory in the Lehigh match was a stirring reversal of fortunes as he fell behind George Jiruska with losses in the opening games, but rallied with 11-2, 11-7 and 11-5 wins to claim the match point for the Fords.

The next outing on the Fords' schedule should be a battle throughout the ladder as Haverford travels to Baltimore, Md., where it will square off against 30th-ranked Johns Hopkins University.
