Men's squash begins play in CSA tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Haverford College men's squash team began play at the 2014 College Squash Association Team Championships with an 8-1 loss to 33rd-ranked Northeastern University.

The match was a lot closer than the final score indicated as the 40th-ranked Fords (4-13) gave the Huskies (15-8) a battle at every position on the ladder. Only three of the nine matches in the contest went the minimum three games.

Senior Bret Marlowe earned Haverford's lone point of the day with a determined effort at No. 8. Marlowe battled back from an 11-9 game-one loss to win the next three (11-5, 11-5, 11-7) over Louie Sitwell.

Playing at No. 9, junior Jonathan Nguyen pushed Asad Kamal to the limit but fell 11-9 in the tightly-contested fifth game.

The Fords get right back to action on Saturday as they face 37th-ranked Boston University in consolation bracket play of the Chaffee Cup/E Division.
