Men's Squash Falls to Northwestern and MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Haverford College men's squash team suffered a 5-4 loss to the Northwestern Wildcats and a 9-0 defeat to the MIT Engineers on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Nathan Vestrich-Shade won a close back and forth battle in game one (19-17) and then dropped just five points in the other two games in a 3-0 win at the No. 1 position vs. Northwestern. Junior Laurenson Ward was also victorious, winning 3-0 at the No. 2 position. Freshman Peter Dudley lost just 14 points in his three-game victory.

After falling behind two games to one, junior Will Greer won game four 11-7 to send his match to a decisive fifth game, but fell 11-5. Sophomore Chris Hoogstraten was down two games to none, but won games three (11-7) and game four (11-8). The sophomore couldn't finish the comeback, dropping game five 11-7.

Freshman Zach Cole scored the fourth point for the Fords with a 3-1 win at the No. 5 position. The Wildcats took points at the No. 4, No. 6-9 positions to pick up the victory over the Fords.

Against MIT, Dudley and freshman Alex Snow lost in four games. After losing 11-7 in game one, Dudley lost a tough 14-12 decision in game, won game three 11-9, but fell 11-9 in game four. Snow tied his match at one with a 12-10 victory in game two, however lost the next two, 13-11 and 11-6.

The Fords' record stands at 5-5 on the season. Haverford will wrap up its weekend vs. Northeastern tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. at MIT.
