Men's Squash Wins Close Battle over Northeastern

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Haverford College men's squash team picked up a 5-4 victory over the Northeastern Huskies on Sunday morning at MIT.

The Huskies notched points at the No.1-4 ladder positions. Junior Nathan Vestrich-Shade was down two games to none and extended the match to a fourth game with an 11-8 win in game three. The junior fell in the fourth game 11-6. Sophomore Aaron Horwitz won games one (11-5) and two (11-4), but dropped games three (11-9) and four (11-3), before losing a heartbreaker in game five 13-11. Freshman Peter Dudley lost in four (7-11, 6-11, 11-7, 6-11) at the No. 4 position.

Junior Will Greer scored a victory in five games at the No. 5 position. Greer was down two games to one, but roared back to win games four and five by identical 11-7 scores. Freshman Zach Cole and sophomore Chris Hoogstraten combined to lose one game in registering points for the Fords at the No. 6 and No.7 ladder positions. The Fords would win the No. 8 and No. 9 positions by default.

The men's squash team's record now stands at 6-5 on the season. The Fords' win was their second over a team ranked higher than they were. Head coach Niki Clement's squad now has a six game home stand on tap beginning with Vassar on Saturday (12:30 p.m.).
