Men's Squash Breezes Past Swarthmore And Vassar

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 30 ranked Haverford Men's Squash team powered past visiting Swarthmore College and No. 32 Vassar College on Saturday at the GIAC Squash Courts. Haverford took down Swarthmore 9-0 before prevailing against Vassar 8-1. The Fords record now sits at 8-4 on the season thus far.

Haverford had success up and down the ladder against Tri-Co rival Swarthmore, taking sweeps at all nine positions. Aaron Horwitz registered a pair of 11-0 victories in taking down Theodore Park 3-0 at the number three spot on the ladder while Zach Cole took an 11-0 game and an 11-1 win over Olivia Cheng.

Haverford held the Garnet to a maximum of five points in any game and held Swarthmore to two or fewer points in 16 individual games.

Against Vassar, Tate Miller was defeated in a spirited five-game thriller that saw two games go to extra points. His opponent, Vincent Mencotti registered Vassar's only win on the day prevailing after dropping the second and third games to Miller. 

Peter Dudley dispatched Sam Hammer (11-0, 11-2, 11-2) at the number two spot on the ladder before Aaron Horwitz, Yash Singh and Alex Liu took wins at the three, four and fifth spots on the ladder with Alex Riccio challenging Liu in a 12-10 third game, representing the only real threat to the Fords. Vassar was held to just 43 total points at the second through sixth spots on the ladder.  Zach Cole took down Lucas Fifer 11-4, 11-0 and 11-1 at the sixth spot on the ladder. Vassar defaulted in the seventh, eighth and ninth spots, allowing Haverford to pick up three wins without seeing the court. 

Haverford will host Lehigh on Saturday (Jan. 28) before heading to Dickinson to take on the host Red Devils and Denison (Jan. 29) in a packed weekend of action on the squash courts. The Fords then return home for the final four matches of this season starting with No. 15 Navy and Georgetown on Feb 4.
