Men's Squash Breezes Past Boston College, Is Edged By Bucknell on Senior Day

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 34 ranked Haverford College men's squash team registered a split on Saturday afternoon at the GIAC Squash Courts, sweeping past No. 33 Boston College 9-0 before falling 5-4 to No. 35 Bucknell. Haverford is now 12-7 and has won its most games in a single season since a 13 win season in 2004-05.

Against Boston College, Keshav Kalani posted a win over Murphy Harmon to begin the day in the ninth spot and Zach Cole took down Colton Hardman in four games in the fifth spot. Shilin Jog got the best of Harrison Locke in the eighth spot after dropping the first set and Alex Liu swept past Rob Fischer in the fourth position. The match was clinched by Peter Dudley, who took down Joe Kim in four games at the second spot on the ladder, and Ryan Dukarm took a win in the sixth spot over Elliott O'Brian.

Aaron Horwitz took down James Stevenson in three games, with the third game going extra points. The senior pulled away with a 14-12 win in his penultimate home match. Tate Miller played at number one and swept Ryan Ashmore and Yash Singh bested Chris Tozzi in four games to seal the sweep over the Eagles. 

Against Bucknell, Kalani got things started against Richard Fitzgerald, falling in three sets at the nine spot on the ladder. Cole fell to Spencer Smith at the number five spot, taking the third set 11-7 before falling in four. Dudley got the Fords on the board with a sweep of Nick Desrosier at the second spot and the. Alex Liu fell in four games to Jack Buendia in the fifth spot and Shilin Jog fell to Bryan Yekelchik in the eighth spot, bringing Haverford into a 1-4 hole. The Fords pulled closer as Horwitz swept Charles Greenwood at the third spot and Ryan Dukarm took a win at the seventh spot. Tate Miller again prevailed at number one, dispatching Henry Kelly for a 4-4 tie. Yash Singh fell in a spirited five-game match.

The captivating match saw Singh fall to Matt Myers in the first game before taking the second and third over his opponent. Myers rallied for a pair of 11-7 game wins to take the match, handing Bucknell a win.

The men played in what was likely the closest team match of the season, against a team in Bucknell that is likely to be in the same division in the CSA Team Championships.

Horwitz was honored before the Bucknell match for his contributions to the Haverford program over his four seasons with the squad.

Men's squash's next opponent will be determined with the final team rankings and the official release of the CSA Team Championship bracket. The team championship will be held next weekend at Harvard. The matches will start on Friday, February 17 and will continue through Sunday, February 19 with one match for each team during each of the three days.
