HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 31 ranked Haverford College men's squash team swept past visiting Swarthmore, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Gardener Integrated Athletics Center (GIAC) Squash Courts. The match was the home debut for the Fords in the 2017-18 campaign. Haverford improves to 3-0 with the victory over the Tri-Co rival Garnet, the best three-game start in the history of the program.

The Fords posted a dominating effort, dropping just one individual game in the sweep. Haverford also surrendered just 27 total points in sweeps on positions two through nine on the ladder.

Thomas Kaye took down Amatullah Brown in the first match to finish, as the first year made quick work of his opponent in an 11-0, 11-0, 11-1 sweep at the nine position. The second match to finish was Zach Cole taking down Angus Lam at the sixth position (11-2, 11-1, 11-2). Fitz Dougherty then defeated Matt Peterson at the third spot (11-1, 11-2, 11-2) to round out the first crop of matches. 

Yash Singh defeated Abe Weiner (11-2, 11-0, 11-0) at the eighth spot on the ladder ahead of Davis Chase, who dispatched Nathan Sandalow-Ash at the second position (11-1, 11-4, 11-1) to seal the overall match victory for Haverford.

Andre Giglio then took down Charlotte Iwasaki (11-3, 11-3, 11-0) at the fifth position ahead of the last group of matches.

Alex Liu then downed James Sutton (11-1, 11-1, 11-0) at the seventh spot before Peter Dudley made quick work of his opponent Amanda Izes at the fourth spot (11-0, 11-0, 11-1). Tate Miller was locked in a battle with Henry Ortmeyer at the No. 1 singles position, taking successive 11-9, 11-5 game victories before dropping an 11-8 decision. Miller rebounded, putting a bow on the 9-0 sweep with an 11-7 victory in the fourth game. 

Haverford now returns to action on December 2 against #16 Bates and #34 Vassar in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The action is slated to begin at 1 p.m. The matchups represent the last action for the Fords in the 2017 calendar year before the winter holiday recess.
