HAVERFORD, Pa. – In a rematch of last season's Chaffee Cup final, the No. 30 ranked Haverford College men's squash team recorded a 7-2 victory over No. 34 Bucknell on Senior Day at the GIAC Squash Courts. Haverford is now 9-5 overall on the season heading into the CSA Team Championships with a win on the final Saturday of the regular season.
Haverford senior co-captain Peter Dudley matched the program's all-time career wins record with his 44th career victory in the match. The mark equals the 44 wins recorded by Tim Saint '02.
First year Thomas Kaye took down Tarik Lamech (11-2, 11-8, 11-7) in the first match of the day to end at the sixth flight. The second match to complete saw Dudley sweeping past Charles Greenwood at the third flight (11-8, 11-3, 12-10).
The Fords picked up their third individual win of the day as junior Alex Liu battled with Bryan Yekelchik at the ninth spot on the ladder, taking a 3-1 decision by a final of 11-7, 10-12, 11-3, 11-6.
First year Davis Chase got the best of Matt Myers at the second flight in an 11-4, 11-2, 11-4 sweep, putting the Fords on the brink of clinching the match, up 4-0.
Junior Yash Singh then clinched the match for the Fords in a hard-earned sweep of Sam Havens (11-7, 10-12, 11-3, 11-6). First year Andre Giglio was defeated by a strong challenge from Sam Klaber at the fifth spot on the ladder, falling after taking the first game (10-12, 12-10, 11-4, 11-7). Sophomore Tate Miller then made quick work of Henry Charman at the top flight for Haverford with an 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 victory.
First year Fitz Dougherty took an 11-4, 11-4, 11-2 triumph over Henry Kelly at the fourth spot before senior co-captain Zach Cole was defeated by a strong challenge from Riggs Johnson (11-5, 12-10, 11-4, 12-10) in a match that riveted the exuberant GIAC crowd.
The Fords bested Bucknell for a second straight matchup after winning against the Bison in the CSA Team Championships in 2017. The series between the Fords and Bison, which dates back to the 2014 season, had produced three straight contests decided by just one match until Saturday's breakthrough for the hosts.
Haverford will next be in action at the CSA Team Championships from February 23-25 at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. with Dudley looking to take aim at becoming Haverford's all-time individual wins leader.
