CSA Team Championships On Deck for Men's Squash This Weekend

2018 CSA Men's Team Championships Central

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's squash team (12-2) is headed for New Haven, Conn. this weekend as the Fords begin their quest for the Conroy Cup at the 2019 College Squash Men's Team Championships, hosted by Yale University.

The championship tournament begins on Friday, February 15 and continues through Sunday, February 17. In total, the team championships feature 59 total programs competing in seven divisions across three sites in Connecticut.

For the Fords, action begins on Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Hobart. The match is scheduled for Yale's Brady Squash Center. Pending the result of the first-round matchup, Haverford will take on either Colby or Bucknell at 6 p.m. on Saturday. A third matchup will take place on Sunday, with an opponent and time to be determined by prior results.

The Conroy Cup (D Division) field features a wealth of both familiar and new opposition for the Fords lineup. Along with the Fords, Hobart, Bucknell, and Colby, the division features squads Dickinson, Stanford, Connecticut College, and Wesleyan. Haverford has faced off with four of those squads this season, registering 6-3 wins over Stanford and Bucknell, while falling to Dickinson and Wesleyan. Haverford played Colby and Connecticut College at the Pioneer Valley Invitational a season ago, but the Fords have not faced off with Hobart since the 2015-16 season, dropping a decision to the Statesmen at that year's Pioneer Valley Invitational.

The Fords enter with a wealth of talent and veteran leadership on their ladder, as senior co-captains Ryan Dukarm and Alex Liu both enter the championships within the top 10 in program history in career wins. Overseeing what has been a historic season for the Fords, the duo is expected to help anchor a young roster with championship experience. Senior Yash Singh has 46 career individual singles wins, needing just one more victory to become Haverford's all-time leader in the category, eclipsing former teammate Peter Dudley '18.

Sophomore Fitz Dougherty has been a standout towards the top of the ladder for the Fords, compiling a 12-1 record this season, including an unblemished 7-0 mark at the third flight. Junior Tate Miller has similarly provided a boost for Haverford, with a 13-1 mark, including a perfect 8-0 record at the second flight. Sophomore Davis Chase is 12-2, exclusively at the top flight this season.

Less than two full seasons into their Haverford careers, Dougherty (.867) and Chase (.710) have each compiled winning percentages that rank within the top 10 in program history for players with at least 15 wins. First years Keil Reedich (12-2), Aaron Witkin (9-4), and Alden Weinberg (9-3) have all impressed in their first seasons on campus, and will earn even more valuable experience competing against some top flight competition in New Haven.

The Fords are two years removed from the Chaffee Cup (E Division) championship in 2016-17. The championship was Haverford's fourth overall CSA division title. This season marks the program's second straight competing for the Conroy Cup after previously reaching the division last in the 2012-13 season.

Last season, Haverford finished fourth in the Conroy Cup, finishing the season with the No. 28 ranking, the best year-end rank for Haverford since the 2004-05 season.
