Men's tennis ships Washington home with 9-0 defeat

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The start to its Centennial Conference slate has been very good for Haverford College's men's tennis team as the Fords won their third straight league match without a loss by rolling to a 9-0 victory Tuesday afternoon over visiting Washington College on The Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center courts in Alumni Field House.

Haverford (4-4, 3-0 CC) downed the visiting Shoremen (3-4, 1-2) without losing a set.

The doubles tandem of Luis Acaba and Sloan Millman won its third straight match by downing Washington's Joel Novick and Andy Pearson, 8-1, at No. 3 for Haverford's first point of the day.

The positive energy continued at 1-doubles where Kevin Caulfield and Danny Himelstein paired up for an 8-4 win to create a 2-0 lead for the home team. The doubles shutout was complete when Matthew Cebul and Matt Romei  edged out the Shoremen's Dan Boate and Ryan Holtschneider by a score of 8-6 to allow Haverford to roll into singles action two points away from clinching the match victory.

Acaba was the first to finish in singles, rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marc Cywinski at No. 2. The clinching point came from Romei at 3-singles as he downed Washington's Boate by the same score as in Acaba's victory.

In all, Haverford's singles players dropped a total of just 19 games in rolling to their six straight-set wins.

The Fords hit the road for their next outing, heading to Carlisle, Pa., on Saturday for a Centennial match-up against host Dickinson College.
