Victory over D-II Devils lengthens win streak

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Tuesday afternoon's 7-2 non-conference victory over the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia gave host Haverford College's men's tennis team its sixth straight win after opening the season with four losses.

The Fords (6-4), ranked eighth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Division III region poll, downed the D-II Devils (5-6) on Haverford's Bramall Courts under summer-like weather.

Haverford got off to a strong start, winning all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.

Kevin Caulfield (pictured) and Danny Himelstein made the quickest work of their USciences opponents, downing Jake Sosonkin and Steven Galerkin at No. 1 by an 8-4 score.

The 2-doubles tandem of Luis Acaba and Sloan Millman won their sixth straight match to mirror the Fords' win streak. Zack Mason and Keith Warner completed the Haverford sweep with an 8-5 win over William Metz and Peter Micu at No. 3 doubles.

Caulfield picked up his second point on the day rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 win over David Kazakevich at 1-singles. Mason was another two-time winner for Haverford as the freshman took a straight-set victory at No. 4.

At No. 5, the Fords' Robert Homan won his second match of the year in his second appearance in the singles ladder for Haverford, and Harrison Elbert won at No. 6 for a third win without a loss this season.

Haverford will attempt to stretch its win streak to seven Wednesday afternoon when Muhlenberg College visits for a Centennial Conference match.
