Men's tennis closes out stay at Southeast Regional

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Sunday's action at the U.S. Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association 2013 Men's Southeast Regional saw the close of Haverford College's stay in the Championship draws with losses in quarterfinal rounds.

Luis Acaba opened Sunday with a win by withdrawal by injury in the round of 16. Acaba squared off against Kenny Zheng of Carnegie Mellon University in an early afternoon match but was downed 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinal round to fall out of the tournament.

In the consolation doubles bracket of the championship draw, both Haverford pairings advanced out of the round of 16 in the morning.

Andy Dougherty and Matt Romei teamed up to defeat Dickinson College's Clark Chapman and Joey Frank, 8-4, to move into the quarterfinal round where the Fords duo were forced to withdraw due to an injury.

Robert Homan and Zack Mason advanced into the quarterfinals with a withdrawal by injury, then dropped an 8-0 decision to Steven Boslett and Sam Thompson of Christopher Newport University.

Sunday's results close out Haverford's fall schedule. The spring slate opens in early March with a home match against the Stevens Institute of Technology.
