Elbert, Millman Capture B1 Doubles Title at ITA Regional

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Haverford College men's tennis team capped a successful weekend at the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional with a B1 Doubles Championship by Harrison Elbert and Sloan Millman. The duo's title capped a weekend in which the Fords went 11-9 between all the draws.

Elbert and Millman went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend en route to the B1 Doubles championship. The Fords' duo moved into the championship match with a convincing 8-3 win against Centennial Conference foes Tyler Arsenault and Henry Burke from Ursinus. Elbert and Millman completed their tournament in the same way it started, an 8-5 victory. The championship victory came against Salisbury's Grant Hudson and Noah Orders.

In B2 Singles competition, Ishaan Prinz rebounded from an opening round loss on Saturday with three straight victories, two of which came on Sunday, to capture the consolation championship of that draw. Prinz's wins did not come easy as he went to extra games during both of his Sunday victories. He moved into the consolation final via a convincing tiebreaker win against Washington & Lee's Joe Siami as he allowed just one point in the tiebreaker after splitting the first 16 games evenly. Prinz capped his weekend with a 9-7 win against Salisbury's Shanon Gunther. In B1 singles, Elbert was edged out by Dickinson's Steven Kaplan, 8-5, as he came up just one win shy of an appearance in that consolation final.

In the Championship Singles Main Draw, freshman Dais Nakayama saw his spectacular weekend come to an end with a three-set loss to the Johns Hopkins' No. 4 seed Ben Hwang. Nakayama put the Blue Jays' seeded player under some pressure with a 6-3 win in set one. However, the No. 4 seed rebounded with second and third set wins. Nakayama's set win against Hwang was the only set the No. 4 seed has dropped so far this weekend. Hwang moved into the semifinals with another win later in the afternoon. Main draw semfinal and final action will be played on Monday.

Men's tennis has wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule with the completion of the ITA Regional. The Fords will return to action this spring when they begin with the team dual match portion of the season slate.
