Men's Tennis Bounces Muhlenberg, 7-2

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team swept through doubles play with an unblemished 3-0 mark and never looked back in Wednesday's 7-2 victory against Muhlenberg. The Fords (7-3, 4-1 CC) stay just behind the pace of the unbeaten teams in the conference with their latest victory.

Luis Acaba and Harrison Elbert earned points together in doubles and later in their respective singles matches. Playing the top doubles position, Acaba and Elbert won each of the eight contested games to blank their top-ranked opponents. Acaba continued to roll in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the top singles slot. Elbert was forced to play extra points in both sets of his singles match at No. 4. However, he would take both in the straight set victory.

Eli Phelps and Benjamin Soloway earned a decisive 8-2 win for the Fords in the third doubles position. Phelps carried his doubles success into singles play as he notched a straight set win with identical 6-2 set wins in the No. 5 singles slot. Soloway did not compete in singles action.

The freshmen duo of Dais Nakayama and Ishaan Prinz played the most tightly contested doubles match of the evening. However, the Fords' middle pairing still prevailed by an 8-5 score. Both Nakayama and Prinz ceded their spots in the singles lineup.

In addition to its three winners in doubles that also won singles matches, Zack Mason earned a team point for the Fords with a win at No. 2 singles. Mason allowed his opponent just three games, winning 6-2, 6-1. Muhlenberg earned its only two points of the evening at No. 4 and No. 6. The win at No. 4 came with Caleb Mayer forcing a 10-point tiebreaker before falling 10-8. At No. 6 singles, Joshua Lederman played a hard-fought 6-4 opening set before his opponent emerged with the victory.
