Men's Tennis Receives National Recognition for Academics

ITA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the 16th straight season, the Haverford College men's tennis team was recognized with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic award. The Fords, who were one of 59 men's teams in Division III to earn the All-Academic Team Award, also had 11 student-athletes recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes. Those 11 ITA Scholar-Athletes tied for the third highest total in Division III behind just the University of Chicago and Amherst.

In order to earn the ITA All-Academic Award, teams must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 to receive the honor. The Fords have accomplished that feat every year since 2001.

To be a scholar-athlete, players must be a varsity letterwinner and have at least a 3.50 grade point average. Haverford's 11 recognized student-athletes mark the third-highest total in school history and most since the 2009 season.

The 11 student-athletes to garner ITA Scholar-Athlete status were: Luis Acaba, Dhario DeSousa, Harrison Elbert, Zack Mason, Caleb Mayer, Dais Nakayama, Eli Phelps, Ishaan Prinz, Keisuke Sawada, Benjamin Soloway, and Nick Sweeney.

The Fords finished with a 13-4 overall record to go along with a 7-2 mark in the Centennial Conference. Those 13 victories tied for the most in a season since 2007. The 2016 spring season also featured an 11 match winning streak that started in early March and continued into the final two weeks of the regular season.
