HAVERFORD, Pa. – Celebrating its Senior Day, the Haverford College men's tennis team senior class recorded three of the team's nine victories in a sweep against Gettysburg on Saturday. The Fords (10-8, 7-2 CC) have now won at least 10 matches in each of the last six seasons. Haverford has won five matches by 9-0 sweeps this season, including four against Centennial Conference opponents.
Starting off in doubles, Josh Moskovitz and Dais Nakayama picked up their eighth win of the season together and did not allow a game in doing so. The Fords' No. 1 pairing finishes the year 5-3 in Centennial Conference action.
Haverford also came away with a pair of 8-6 wins at No. 2 and No.3 doubles. In the middle doubles match, David Kong and Raja Arul improved to 6-1 playing together this spring with their third straight victory. That first year duo went 4-1 in Centennial Conference matches. Seniors Matthew Buczek and co-captain Benjamin Horwitz were also 8-6 winners at No. 3 doubles. Buczek and Horwitz both capped undefeated varsity careers with the Fords after that win.
Co-captain Keisuke Sawada capped his varsity career with a 7-1 overall record between singles and doubles as he was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 5 singles on Saturday. Classmate Eliot Faust finished his Haverford career with a perfect 3-0 varsity record in singles. For the second time in his career, Faust won in a 10-point tiebreak. Rallying from down a set, the senior won 7-5 in the second and took 10 of the 12 contested points in the tiebreak.
Haverford did not drop a set in any of the other matches on Saturday. Moskovitz (No. 1 singles), Ishaan Prinz (No. 3 singles), and Arul (No. 4 singles) all had 6-0 sets during their singles efforts. Moskovitz recorded his 10th win in the year. Prinz improved to 11-7 overall, while Arul is now 8-5 this season. Eli Phelps added his team-leading 12th win of the year in singles as he was victorious by a 6-3, 7-5 score at No. 2 singles.
Men's tennis will now travel to either Swarthmore or Johns Hopkins for its Centennial Conference semifinal next Saturday depending on the results of today's contested matches. The time and location for those matches will be announced on Monday morning.
